After a long day at the pool with the kids, I was thinking that I was looking forward to a quiet night at home.
The fire here in Payson that transpired behind our house Friday afternoon made for some good entertainment. The kids & I sat outside for a couple of hours after dinner watching the many airplanes & helicopters working the fire. (not to mention breathing in that wonderful air) Not really thinking that it was threatening.
Good entertainment until @ 11:30 pm a firefighter was pounding at our door giving us 2 minutes to evacuate.
WHAT! ARE YOU SERIOUS? RIGHT NOW?
So I ran around like a crazy lady grabbing some things, (I had starting setting things out...just in case) got the kids in the car and the dogs in the pet porters. (and only had a partial break-down)
Only half of the neighborhood was evacuated so I drove down the street and waited with others that were told to be prepared to evacuate. After sitting and watching the fire for over 2 hours & eating half a dozen chocolate chip cookies and a Diet Coke & smelling like a camp fire, we crashed in the Kunzlers living room for the night. The kids finally getting to bed at 2:00 am. Yes, my little ones were with me and Shane was on a trip of course. He always misses out on this fun stuff.
The fire looks like it is out this morning and we are all trying to recover from a long night.
Thanks to many good neighbors who were such great help.
Taking note of what I need to have ready for another emergency (chocolate chip cookies for sure) and needing a nap!
Front porch view. A lot of ash in the air.
Morning after.
12 telling it like it is:
Do you live in California?
Once again, missed out on all the fun. So sorry you were alone, but it sounds like our great neighbors took care of you!
What a crazy night! I still can't believe it. After experiencing an earthquake in California this week, and hearing about all the fire craziness, maybe I will FINALLY start getting my food storage. Maybe...
Oops. That last comment was from me, Heidi. You know, the neighbor that has been gone forever! We'll see you in a couple days.
you weren't like crazy lady right.... right?
WOW!! So scary-crazy! I'm glad the fire didn't get any closer and you were able to go back home! The morning picture looks MUCH better!
Holy Crap! Evacuated!
thank heaven for great neighbors.
and cookies.:)
and I'll be Kade had a blast watching all the heldacopters and planes.
W-H-A-T-??? Well, I've not watched the news (or TV at all really) for a few days. I didn't even know there was a fire near your house. Nothing like a little excitement! So sorry you had a stressful night with Shane away.
Just wanted to say that it is so odd that they evacuated you and not two doors down. Crap. But I like you are sooooooooooo thankful. It was scary... Glad that you guys are all intact, and have a house to go home to...
Amanda, hi, your life is just too exciting!!! Fires and all!!! Kids are growing, Kendal looks so different, love your blog!!! Nice music, hope to see you soon.
Pavlina
Glad your house didn't burn up. I bet it was fun evacuating 2 kids and 2 dogs by yourself! Good thing you had chocolate chip cookies to reward yourself with. Glad you're all okay.
How sad about the fire and also that I've never seen your kids. I'm glad we can connect this way. The email I have for you does not work. Maybe I will see you during Labor Day. Sad we have to travel 3hours to see one another when we only live 40 minutes. Hope all is well. Talk to you soon!
